Feeling Antsy? Pair These Relaxing Strains with Your Next Yoga Sesh!

If you’re feeling a little over this whole self-quarantine thing, we feel you. With spring in full bloom, it feels a little cruel to be trapped at home. But there are upsides, too: It’s a great time to drop into some self-improvement and wellness practices. And without much doubt, one of our favorites is yoga while high!

If that sounds like an odd match, it shouldn’t. First developed a mind-boggling 5,000 years ago in ancient India, yoga is all about inhabiting the present moment, reinforcing the synergy between mind and body, and dropping into a deeper consciousness through stretching and gentle exertion. Especially when so many of us are getting a teeny bit sick of being stuck at home, it’s a powerful way to stay in shape, shed stress, and stretch the limits of the body.

There are many styles of yoga for all skill and experience levels. Here are a few options to help you get your practice started, along with some of our favorite strain recommendations. And just to remind you: Green Goddess is currently offering curbside pickup and free delivery within a 5-mile radius of the shop!

Yoga while High: Hatha Yoga

While “hatha” is a blanket term for all physical (rather than strictly meditation-based) forms of yoga, here in the West it generally means a gentler, slower-paced style of yoga. It’s great for beginners, those recovering from physical injuries or wanting to de-stress themselves through mindful, intentional movements.

Strain Recommendation: Lemon Creamsicle by Blue Tarantula

This high-THC sativa boasts a super delicious lemon-kissed flavor matched with a gentle rush of motivated cerebral inspiration. You may feel more than a little bit giggly, but—unlike in a group class—that shouldn’t be a problem!

Iyengar Yoga

A little more precise and alignment-focused than hatha yoga, Iyengar links specific poses with control of the breath. Because it calls for precise poses, a set of basic props—such as yoga blocks and straps—will be helpful here. If the style isn’t very aerobic, you’ll still come out of it feeling refreshed and realigned, making it a great choice for those recovering from physical injuries.

Strain Recommendation: Zelly’s Gift by Lithouse

A cornucopia of complex flavors, this sativa-dominant hybrid won the 2018 Emerald Cup. Claiming the famous Jack Herer strain in its lineage, Zelly’s Gift imparts joyful, clear-headed euphoria and stimulation. The creative buzz practically begs you to drop into some deep and mindful poses with it as your guide.

Yin Yoga

A slow-paced style, yin yoga focuses on seated postures designed to slowly stretch your muscles and fascia. It’s gentle and meditative; poses are held for up to a few minutes each, and gravity is working just as much as you are. Great for correcting “computer neck” and other hazards of the online lifestyle!
